Olympic Fiber Corridor Feb Update

A number of customers have written and called asking for updates. It has certainly been too long. Here goes:

Mainline Fiber construction south of Hwy 104 is almost complete. Mainline fiber construction North of Hwy 104 is behind schedule and will not be complete until May.

In-home installations will resume next week south of 104. We'll be connecting remaining customers in Quilcene PONS B, D, and G. Quilcene PONS C, H, F, A, and E will take longer as we wait on contract splicers. They have delayed us multiple times and it's been frustrating. That said, they are very close to completing their work in every Quilcene PON excepting E, where our line crew has a few more sections of aerial fiber to build.

As soon as splicing is complete in any of these Quilcene PONS, we’ll begin notifying eligible customers about installation openings. The notifications will be sent out in smaller groupings rather than whole PONs going forward. As of now we do not have a timeline. I could speculate, but my success rate with past speculation has been less than spectacular.

North of Hwy 104, buried fiber construction is nearly complete, but around 15 miles of aerial fiber remain. We have a bid out now to hire a contractor to build 12 miles of aerial fiber along Hwy 101. We expect construction to begin first of April. In the interim our line crews will work to complete the other 3 miles in between responding to outages, which unsurprisingly, there have been a lot of lately.

Because of these mainline construction delays, Discovery Bay and Gardiner in-home installs are currently pushed back to summer. East of 101 in our Chimacum area PONS we are hoping installs can begin in April, but that all depends on the availability of our line crew, which in turn depends on the weather.

Obviously, I wish I had better news. Though you have heard it many times before, I apologize for the delays.
